The Loire Valley’s Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre are the reference points for great Sauvignon blanc. Arnaud and Julien Moreux, 14th generation winemakers at Domaine Moreux-Corty, have a foot in both appellations, but it is Pouilly-Fumé where most of their holdings are. It is essential to experience the Domaine’s range of wines as each reflects a particular terroir, of which Pouilly-Fumé boasts an array of.

Twin brothers, Arnaud and Julien Moreux, took over from their father Patrice a little over ten years ago, and are dedicated to producing pure, terroir-driven Sauvignon blanc from their 34 hectares of vines in Pouilly-Fumé. GD’s Derek Kilpin and Charlotte Dagueneau were just at the Domaine earlier this week with a group of customers, and were treated to a tasting of the wines from 2021 and 2022, plus some 2019 and 2020 of the Monopole ”La Loge aux Moines”.
The mixed case we have put together for today’s release covers the different terroir and three vintages in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Included in your mixed case is the Pouilly-Fumé ”Silex” (from flint soils), Pouilly-Fumé ”Caillottes” (from Kimmeridgian stony limestone soils rich with fossils) and the aptly-named Pouilly-Fumé ”Intro”, which is essentially a blend of plots of Sauvignon blanc from across the Domaine’s holdings.
The Pouilly-Fumé ”La Loge aux Moines” is a single-vineyard Sauvignon blanc. This 4.5-hectare plot is planted on a south-facing slope overlooking the Loire river. It was gifted to Jeannine and Raymond Moreux as a wedding present in 1955. The soils here are Kimmeridgean marl, and contain the highest proportion of active limestone (40%) in the entire Pouilly-Fumé appellation. This vineyard was also the first in the appellation to be cultivated by Benedictine monks, back in the 11th century – hence the name, ”The Monks’ Lodge”.
Not included in the mixed case is the 2020 vintage of ”La Loge aux Moines”. There is not very much of this available, but please do speak to your Account Manager if you would like to include a bottle or two in your order.
