Damascene W.O. Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc 2020

Damascene W.O. Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc 2020, "A blend of three mountainous Stellenbosch vineyards. The wine is supremely expressive of these distinct sites, with soils of pure shale, Greywacke and granite; aromatics of waxy flowers popping open in the breeze, crushed lime, smoked honey and wet stone. Harmonious. Yellow peaches are bright and sun-kissed on the palate, while the density of fruit - tangy apricot, mango and caramelised pineapple - is pithy and mouth-coating. The mineral acidity carries all the richness of the fruit into a refreshing finish with hints of toasty nuts on the tail." - Winemaker's notes

David & Nadia Chenin Blanc 2020

R365.00 inc. VAT
"Our main Chenin blanc from the Swartland focuses yet again on various Old Vine Vineyards, with plantings ranging from 1968 till 1985. The wine is based on granite from the Paardeberg, blended with shale/schist from the east, more clay-rich soils from the north, and iron-rich soils from the western parts of the Swartland. Dry land-farmed bush vines have stood the test of time and it showcases the ultimate reason why Chenin blanc is our main focus in the Swartland. In total, the wine is made from 7 vineyards, 14 pickings, different soils, different aspects, different vineyard ages, farmed by different people, and different farmers. This wine illustrates the Swartland, its people, and its old vineyards. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented and then matured for 11 months in old neutral French oak barrels. Two components were fermented and matured in concrete – one in a square concrete tank and the other in a concrete egg. The wine has a Certified Heritage Vineyards (CHV) seal and forms part of the Old Vine Project (OVP)." Winemaker's notes

Ripe quince, pineapple and stone fruit with some interesting savory undertones. Lightly textured palate, with a hint of sweetness and balancing crunchy acid, results in a brisk finish.

"This world-class Syrah hails from a 0.7-hectare parcel planted on a ridge in 2005. Made with no stems in 2016 – the wine normally sees 15% whole bunches - it's like a Cape Côte Rôtie, all perfume, nuance and texture, with notes of ginger spice, barbecued meat and some ferrous grip. 2021-28" - Tim Atkin MW, South African Special Report 2020

BLANKbottle Boberg 2020

"Moment of Silence predominantly comes from a farm in Wellington called Twyfeling. Boberg is situated on a farm right next to Twyfeling and literally looks onto the vineyards of Twyfeling. Now Twyfeling was owned by my direct family seven generations ago. So on the label it shows 7 generations with Boberg overlooking all seven generations of the Hauptfleisch family. 2015 was the first year that I bought the grapes from this Vineyard. The Farmer calls the vineyard BOBERG, which means “on top of the Mountain”. It was a neglected little vineyard, old bush vines with no irrigation. The farmer identified it as a site with potential and started with a restoration process. The vineyard grows in decomposed granitic soil in Wellington. The site is cooler than the others in the area. I used it in 2015 as a component in the Moment of Silence blend. In 2020 we picked early, the grapes were ripe but the sugar low and the palate fresh. The juice fermented spontaneously in a 1600L concrete egg shapes tank. The wine showed individuality and I decided to bottle this as a single vineyard wine within the BLANKBOTTLE portfolio."
