Domaine des Closiers Saumur-Champigny Les Closiers 2020
"The 2020 Saumur Champigny Les Closiers comes from Cabernet Franc plots cultivated on the limestone hillsides of Parnay. Vinified and matured in stainless steel vats, the Closiers reveals an intense but pure and refreshing bouquet of perfectly ripe red and dark fruits such as elderberries, blackcurrant, blueberries and blackberries as well as mulberries. Generous and gentle on the palate, this is a fruit-intense, very charming and juicy, wonderfully floral and delicate red with perfect ripeness but the lightness and finesse of a Saumur Champigny. The finish is pure and fleshy and reveals fine and stimulating tannins. It's impossible not to love this 2020 that was macerated for a month and then aged in vats for approximately 10 months. Nothing added here apart from small quantities of sulfur dioxide. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in March 2022.." Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

"Vinified in stainless steel tanks and then aged in barrels, the 2020 Saumur Champigny Les Coudraies comes from the low-yielding limestone slopes of Parnay that were cropped at 40 hectoliters per hectare that year. The Coudraies offers a deep and concentrated, spicy and fruity bouquet of dark fruits such as sour cherries and blackcurrant along with mint and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, round and intense on the palate, this is a substantial, dense and generous but structured Cabernet with very intense and juicy fruit, good mineral freshness, spicy tannins and a long and intense, very promising finish that is still a little astringent. 14% stated alcohol. "The wine reveals its intense red colour. The nose is distinguished by aromas of crushed black berries or wild strawberries with slightly earthy and smoky notes. The palate is rich in tasty fruit but also firm and balanced. The wine lingers on the palate on a thread of freshness and spices. An impression of gluttony continues during the tasting. "L'Huisserie is a clay-flint vineyard on Chinon's slopes. The 2020 was tasted as a tank sample. It is a fluid, flowing style that conveys a sense of ease, as it flows across the palate. It is elegant and appetising with black fruits and a light piquancy. Finishes with cedar notes, licorice and fruit cake spices. This is certainly a high quality and ripe, well made style. The abundant tannins are a triumph, coating the mouth with reassuring gourmandise. This doesn't stay still, it has lovely line and direction." - Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous
Domaine Philippe Alliet Chinon Vieilles Vignes 2020
"The 2020 Les Vieilles Vignes hails from a gravel-based vineyard of 50 to 80 years old vines. Matured in concrete tank over 18 months, the result is all black cherry, blackcurrant and a hint of piquancy. It's round and shimmies around your mouth. Excellent, resolved, gravelly tannins coat the palate. All in all, it's charming. A minor gripe is the touch of alcohol (14.1% alcohol) that leaves a slight warmth and partly detracts from the finish; otherwise, it is delightfully handled. The 2019 was perhaps a little better.
