BLANKbottle 1 Click off 2020

R365.00 inc. VAT
This Pinot Noir, produced from a small vineyard situated just over 12 kilometres of Kleinmond. There is significant improvement – as the name suggests things are “1 click off”, whereas previously it was “2 clicks off”. When we tasted this, we were very impressed by the purity of Pinot fruit and balance of the wine. While watching this space for the wine once Pieter is 100% happy with the result, we highly recommend the 2020 1 Click Off. Only one barrel was made so availability is very limited.

Clos de Tart Grand Cru 2017

'A much more floral-inflected nose is equally fresh and ripe with a broader range of spice elements adding breadth to the pretty red and blue pinot fruit aromas that are trimmed in noticeable if not invasive wood. The caressing and wonderfully vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess better mid-palate density before concluding in a lingering, balanced and much more complex finale. I like the focused drive of the finish; indeed this could aptly be described as a wine that delivers power without weight. I would further note that the 2017 is a relatively elegant example and, like the La Forge, a wine that could be approached on the earlier side, which is to say after 7 to 8 years." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2017

"From the same grape supplier as Chapelle-Chambertin. Here the colour is a little bit fresher and the nose too is not so uniformly black – more a dark red approach. This retains some elegance, with a classy full-bodied red fruit across the piece, some subtlety to the detail, ripe coulis de framboise, a faint appearance of acidity and very good length. A little limestone coolness behind. More discretion, which is to be welcomed." -Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

Domaine de Montille Beaune “Les Sizies” Premier Cru 2017

R860.00 inc. VAT
"An agreeably free and pure nose reflects notes of violet, plum and dark raspberry along with a whiff of newly turned earth. There is good richness to the generously proportioned middle weight flavors that evidence a subtle minerality on the clean, dusty and sneaky long finish. This moderately firm effort will need at least a few years to unwind but 8 to 10 years should be sufficient to see it at its best." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Nuits St. Georges “Aux Saints Juliens” Village 2017

R885.01 inc. VAT
"A markedly floral nose is comprised by notes of herbal tea, various dark berries and earth nuances. There is both good intensity and detail on the mildly rustic, complex and lingering finish. This is quite good for a Nuits villages and worth checking out." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Nuits St. Georges “Aux Thorey” Premier Cru 2017

"Once again there is a beguiling elegance to the pure if spicier aromas of floral-inflected red currant and cherry scents. Once again there is beautiful delineation to the intensely stony medium weight flavors that deliver very fine length on the balanced and complex finish. This too is quite lovely." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Pommard “Les Cras” Village 2017

R885.01 inc. VAT
"Moderate reduction is enough to mask the underlying fruit at present. Otherwise there is good density and punch to the sappy medium-bodied flavors that exhibit fine length on the rustic but not particularly austere finale. A quality Pommard villages that is firm but not so much so that it couldn't be enjoyed relatively young." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Pommard “Les Pézerolles” Premier Cru 2017

"Super-fresh and distinctly cool aromas are comprised by airy notes of herbal tea, violet, lavender and dark pinot fruit. The racy, intense and beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors exhibit ample minerality on the delicate and refined finish that delivers excellent length. Lovely stuff." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Volnay “En Champans” Premier Cru 2017

R1,860.01 inc. VAT
"A much earthier mix of red and dark currant, violet and discreet herbal tea nuances slides into the supple lighter weight flavors that are a bit more elegant than usual, all wrapped in a nicely complex and persistent finish. This is certainly good but 2017 is not a great vintage for this wine." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Volnay “La Carelle Sous Chapelle” Premier Cru 2017

R1,405.00 inc. VAT
"A deft touch of wood sets off the bright red fruit, lavender and discreet spice-inflected aromas. The sleek, elegant and well-detailed middle weight flavors possess a refined mouth feel before concluding in a more obviously mineral-driven finish that has just a touch of youthful austerity to it. This lacy effort is lovely and very Volnay in character." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Volnay “Taillepieds” Premier Cru 2017

"A cool, pure and ultra-floral nose blends notes of both red and dark cherry, anise, sandalwood and a hint of herbal tea. The firm, serious and overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess excellent verve while culminating in a youthfully austere and impressively long finish. This is clearly very firm yet it's a bit less compact than it usually is but with that said, plenty of patience will still be necessary." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Vosne-Romanée “Les Malconsorts” Premier Cru 2014 Magnum

R7,065.00 inc. VAT
"A discreet application of oak sets off the openly floral and spicy red currant, plum, sandalwood and Asian tea scents. There is impressive mid-palate density to the muscular and notably powerful medium weight plus flavors that seem to be constructed on a firm base of minerality, all wrapped in strikingly persistent finish that is austere but well-balanced thanks to the abundant level of sappy dry extract. Like the Clos du Roi, this is explicitly built-to-age and don't waste your precious bottles by drinking them too young." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin “Mes Cinq Terroirs” Village 2017

"Once again there is a discreet but not invisible touch of wood framing the notably earthier and more deeply pitched aromas of both red and dark currant and forest floor nuances. There is fine intensity and solid concentration to the vibrant middle weight flavors that reflect ample minerality, all wrapped in a focused, complex and lengthy finish that flashes unusually good power for a villages level wine. As it usually is, this is a fine effort and well worth considering." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Henri Germain et Fils Beaune “Bressandes” Premier Cru 2017

"This is not only quite firmly reduced but it seems flat with a hint of barnyard character that extends to the palate as well while also suffusing the mildly tough finish. This is a very odd showing for the vintage and I'm not sure what to make of it. Not Rated." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Henri Germain Meursault Village “Clos des Mouches” Rouge 2017

R895.00 inc. VAT
"This also flirts with noticeable barnyard character on the red and dark berry fruit-scented nose. However, it does not extend to the palate of the energetic and well-detailed flavors that offer reasonably good depth and persistence. Again, at present the barnyard character is sufficiently subtle that it may not become overly pronounced but that is not a guarantee that it will remain a background element." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
