Champagne Pol Roger “Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill” 2008

R3,200.00 inc. VAT
"Sourced in grand cru vineyards and blending Pinot Noir with Chardonnay, Pol Roger's 2008 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill displays an intense straw-yellow/white-golden color and opens with a beautifully deep, fresh, concentrated and beautifully aromatic bouquet of perfectly ripe tropical fruits, refreshing lemons, very fine vanilla and brioche aromas. The attack on the palate is fresh and finessed, and in the following seconds, the 2008 reveals great airiness, precision, purity and intensity with a firm, persistent structure in the long, refreshing, perfectly balanced and mouthwateringly salty finish. The 2008 Winston Churchill is a highly complex yet focused and vitalizing prestige cuvée of great, great finesse, chalky expression and exciting elegance. It already drinks great but also indicates immense aging potential. It's most likely one of the finest of this century and one of the greatest Churchills of modern times. Tasted from lot L82002894D in July 2018. Disgorgement date unknown. The wine will be released in the second half of 2018." - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Fèlsina “Vin Santo del Chianti Classico” 2008 (375ml)

R455.00 inc. VAT
"Hold your horses, this is one spectacular Vin Santo that explodes with intensity and authenticity. The Fèlsina 2008 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is a true work of art, and I recommend that you sit back to savor every single special sip of this traditional sweet wine from Tuscany. The bouquet offers thick layers of candied fruit, apricot, honey, brown sugar and maple syrup. It is sweet, but in a delicate way. It provides enough tangy fruit, freshness, spice and toasted nut to magically appear less sweet than it actually is. Smoke, camphor ash and dried mint appear on the extra long finish." - Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Marchesi Antinori “Solaia” Magnum 2008

R10,995.00 inc. VAT
"The 2008 Solaia is richer and darker than the Tignanello, but it isn’t an appreciably more complex or complete wine. It shows gorgeous depth and textural richness to match an expressive core of blackberry jam, smoke, scorched earth, crushed rocks and cassis. This is a beautiful wine, but not as great as I had hoped. The 2008 Solaia is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged in 100% new oak." - Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Marchesi Antinori “Tignanello” Magnum 2008

R3,995.00 inc. VAT
"Tignanello 2008 is the wine of a vintage in which the grapes reached excellent levels of ripeness, and this is reflected in its intense ruby red color, its important aromatic concentration, its notes of ripe red fruit and jam accompanied by spice, vanilla, and liquorice. The palate is distinguished by a dense and elegant texture sustained by the vibrant acidity of the Sangiovese, by tannins of a lovely suppleness, and by an extremely long and lingering finish. The 2008 Tignanello is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage. The 2008 isn't a huge or obvious Tignanello, rather it is a wine that impresses for its sublime elegance and precision. Understated layers of fruit caress the palate like cashmere in this impeccable, soft wine. There is not a hard edge to be found. Black cherries, tobacco, smoke and licorice are some of the notes that come through on the finish. The flavor profile is decidedly on the dark side, but the wine's structure is medium in body and intensity. In 2008 the Tignanello has more energy, focus and length than the Solaia. It is a fabulous achievement! The 2008 Tignanello is 80% Sangiovese aged in 300-liter French oak barrels (1/3rd new), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, both aged in 100% new 225-liter French oak barriques." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
