It was disgorged in September 2020. As readers will remember, the "17" denotes the base vintage, which is complemented by reserve wines from a solera established in 2010." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

"Light gold. Aromas of nectarine, pear and lemon curd, with subtle ginger, lees and floral accents. Champagne Pol Roger Brut Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2009

"The wine has an inviting, bright golden hue, and a fine, regular stream of bubbles. At first the refined nose exudes subtle hints of brioche and sweet spice combining with citrus flavours and floral fragrances. As the wine warms in the glass, it becomes more powerful and the nose develops complex nuances of toasted nuts, acacia blossom and honeycomb. The palate is round and creamy supported by notes of fresh fruit. The structure is opulent, underpinned by fabulous balance. The finish is long and powerful." - Winemaker's notes

Champagne Vilmart & Cie Grand Cellier D’Or Premier Cru 2015

R1,100.00 inc. VAT
"Disgorged in June 2019 with seven grams per liter dosage, the 2015 Brut Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or reveals inviting aromas of golden orchard fruit, pear, freshly baked bread and citrus zest. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with racy acids, chalky extract and a long, penetrating finish, the vintage has imparted additional generosity, but the house's chiseled, serious style remains very much intact." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Vieille Vigne du Levant Grand Cru Extra Brut 2011

R1,450.00 inc. VAT
"Revisited from the June 2019 disgorgment, Larmandier-Bernier's 2011 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant continues to drink superbly, bursting from the glass with aromas of pear, peach, toasted almonds, white flowers, fresh bread and oyster shell. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and fleshy, with superb concentration, racy acids and a long, saline finish. I have previously contended that Pierre Larmandier produced Champagne's wines-of-the-vintage in 2011, and every bottle I open seems to confirm that. Indeed, if one were to taste only his wines, along with those produced by a small handful of other growers, one could easily think very differently about this unheralded year." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Champagne Lanson Le White Label Sec Non-Vintage

R850.00 inc. VAT
"Pale gold. Spicy pear, melon and white peach scents and flavors are lifted by a note of tangerine. Emphatically fruity, showing good depth and energy for its sweetness. Closes smooth and long, with a touch of ginger adding bite. Spicy Asian dishes or strong cheeses would be fantastic with this plush Champagne." - Josh Raynolds, Antonio Galloni's Vinous

Champagne Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2012

"Old gold hue with gorgeous grey tints and a stream of lovely fine bubbles. The first nose exudes generous aromas of pastry with hints of vanilla and brioche, followed by subtle fragrances of sweet spice as it opens up. The bouquet then develops to reveal an array of dried fruit and candied exotic fruit mixed with notes of banana and papaya. The wine is honest and lively on entry, giving way to an attractive and opulent texture with a lovely balance. We are then treated to an extraordinary explosion of flavours, elegantly blending roasted almonds, acacia honey, hazelnut liqueur and gingerbread. This wonderful harmony is underpinned by a structure that shows a smooth, creamy and round character. Well structured with a superb aromatic persistence, this vintage 2012 is remarkable for its complexity and power." - Winemaker's notes

Champagne Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2013

The nose immediately exudes a complex bouquet of almond, cashew nut, small candied seeds, harmoniously counterbalanced by its vibrant sensation of youth and lightness mingling with mineral and floral fragrances. Then as the wine opens up in the glass, the scents of toast and Viennese pastries reveal all their richness and intensity. The mouth tingles under its seductive attack, crisp, fresh, acidulous, and yet full of roundness and suppleness. Then comes a long lasting intense aftertaste with hints of white flowers." - Winemaker's notes

R3,510.00 inc. VAT
"Disgorged in July 2016 with only three grams per liter dosage, the 2007 Brut Blanc de Blancs Clos Lanson is showing very well indeed, unwinding in the glass with notes of dried white flowers, citrus oil, toasted brioche, oyster shell and smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and vibrant, with a racy spine of acidity, good concentration and chalky structuring extract. Champagne Vilmart & Cie Coeur de Cuvée Premier Cru 2011

R1,595.00 inc. VAT
"Disgorged in May 2018 with seven grams per liter dosage, Vilmart's new 2011 Brut Coeur de Cuvée is showing beautifully, offering up an expressive bouquet of crisp green pear, yellow apple, dried white flowers, English walnuts and spices. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly fleshy and nicely concentrated, it's a fine-boned, precise rendition of this cuvée, built around ripe but racy acids and complemented by a pinpoint mousse. Vilmart is the sort of grower that succeeds in vintages such as 2011, and this wine met my expectations."
