Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru “Les Chemins d’Avize” 2012

R1,615.00 inc. VAT
"Disgorged in March 2018 to be released later this year is the 2012 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Chemins d'Avize, an impressive wine that wafts from the glass with scents of almond paste, pear, lemon and crushed chalk that are gently wood-inflected at this early stage, though I expect that will be hard to discern with a few more months on cork. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and textural, with a deep and multidimensional core and a precise, lively finish. I'm looking forward to revisiting it" - William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Blanc de Blancs Brut Premier Cru “Terre de Vertus” 2012

R945.00 inc. VAT
"The 2012 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 1er Cru Terre de Vertus is powerful, dense and also surprisingly tightly wound given the richness of the year. Readers will have to be patient with the 2012, as it is quite closed in on itself today. Dried pear, green apple, citrus, smoke, licorice and dried herbs open up over time, but the 2012 offers a decidedly austere and nervy expression of Chardonnay at this stage. Even so, the interplay of power and crystalline intensity is compelling. Non-dosé. Disgorged: March 2018." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Champagne Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2012

R1,305.01 inc. VAT
"Disgorged in October 2018, the 2012 Brut Vintage offers up aromas of smoky peach, apples, pastry cream, white flowers and mandarin. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and powerful, with more volume and amplitude than its blanc de blancs counterpart, revealing racy balancing acids, an already refined mousse and the impressive concentration that typifies this low-yielding vintage. It's a classic blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay that saw seven grams per liter dosage." William Kelley

Champagne Pol Roger Rosé 2012

R1,210.00 inc. VAT
"Remembering the rather reserved phase in which I had found Pol Roger's 2012 Brut Rosé when I reviewed it in August, I pulled a bottle from my cellar to check in on its evolution. A few months have made a difference, and the wine is more expressive already, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of plums, red berries, blood orange and toasted brioche. On the palate, it's full-bodied, muscular and vinous, with terrific depth and structure at the core, its ripe but racy acids balanced by considerable texture and concentration. While this remains youthfully tight-knit, I'm inclined to think I was very conservative regarding its ultimate potential." William Kelley

La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva 2012

R530.00 inc. VAT
Garnacha is an important component in the 2012 Viña Ardanza Reserva, where it represents 20% of the blend (the rest is, of course, Tempranillo). 2011 was a difficult vintage for Garnacha, so Viña Ardanza was not produced that year and they jumped from 2010, which had the mention "Selección Especial," to 2012, where it returns to the regular Reserva. The wine is a prototype of polished and aged Rioja with a ruby color with some orange and a developed nose with subtle aromas of decayed leaves, sweet spices and some cherries in liqueur even, quite complex and harmonious. The palate is velvety but rich, with resolved tannins and a fine chalky mouthfeel, sleek and elegant, terribly balanced. The flavors are pure and defined, and there is an overall sense of harmony that I like very much. Brilliant Ardanza! They produced no less than 600,000 bottles of this wine, which is remarkable. It has been in bottle since March 2016, so it's very approachable but should also age nicely in bottle. Drink or keep.

Marchesi Antinori “Solaia” Magnum 2012

R8,795.00 inc. VAT
"The 2012 Solaia is the ultimate comfort wine: It serves as a beautiful monument to the potential of Italian wine. Let me give you some context. My lukewarm review of the 2011 vintage caused some heads to turn. Happily, the previous vintage has served as a springboard for this current release. Both 2011 and 2012 come from hot climatic conditions, but these wines are very different in style and content. The 2011 heat softened the lines that make up the varietal identity of this celebrated Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Those lines are presented in sharp focus with the 2012 edition. The nose is redolent of dark berry, crushed mineral, plum, spice and touch of white pepper. The wine is integrated and seamless, but it speaks with a strong and articulate voice." - Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Roc de Cambes Jeroboam 2012 (3l)

R4,995.00 inc. VAT
"A dark, imposing wine, the 2012 Roc des Cambes is distinctly dark and brooding. Black cherries, smoke, licorice, tar and dark spices fleshed [?]. Vertical in style and quite structured, the 2012 could use another few years in bottle to fully come together, which will also help the chewy tannins to integrate a bit more fully. Roc des Cambes is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec that spend 18 months in 100% new French oak." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
