Champagne Pol Roger “Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill” 2006

R3,100.00 inc. VAT
"Made in the very best vintages, Pol Roger's white-golden colored 2006 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill offers a very clear, precise, ripe and complex bouquet with fruity and refreshingly chalky, nutty and brioche notes. Full-bodied and complex on the palate, the 2006 is supple, round and rich but also fine, elegant, fresh and well structured. It has a harmonious yet tight, persistent and very promising finish that puts this silky textured, Pinot-dominated cuvée (the exact blend is a closely guarded family secret) on the border of fatty richness. But the mousse gives so much freshness and finesse that everything seems lifted here. Though I have very limited experience with matured Champagnes from Pol Roger and namely Churchill, I suppose the 2006 will benefit a lot from further bottle aging. But don't get me wrong: the wine is already gorgeous. Tasted June 2018, disgorged in June 2017" - Stephan Reinhardt

Champagne Pol Roger “Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill” 2008

R3,200.00 inc. VAT
"Sourced in grand cru vineyards and blending Pinot Noir with Chardonnay, Pol Roger's 2008 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill displays an intense straw-yellow/white-golden color and opens with a beautifully deep, fresh, concentrated and beautifully aromatic bouquet of perfectly ripe tropical fruits, refreshing lemons, very fine vanilla and brioche aromas. The attack on the palate is fresh and finessed, and in the following seconds, the 2008 reveals great airiness, precision, purity and intensity with a firm, persistent structure in the long, refreshing, perfectly balanced and mouthwateringly salty finish. The 2008 Winston Churchill is a highly complex yet focused and vitalizing prestige cuvée of great, great finesse, chalky expression and exciting elegance. It already drinks great but also indicates immense aging potential. It's most likely one of the finest of this century and one of the greatest Churchills of modern times. Tasted from lot L82002894D in July 2018. Disgorgement date unknown. The wine will be released in the second half of 2018." - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Champagne Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2012 Magnum

R2,350.00 inc. VAT
"Disgorged in October 2018, the 2012 Brut Vintage offers up aromas of smoky peach, apples, pastry cream, white flowers and mandarin. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and powerful, with more volume and amplitude than its blanc de blancs counterpart, revealing racy balancing acids, an already refined mousse and the impressive concentration that typifies this low-yielding vintage. It's a classic blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay that saw seven grams per liter dosage." - William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Champagne Pol Roger Pure Extra Brut Non-Vintage

R895.00 inc. VAT
"Pol Roger's brightly colored, white-golden NV Pure Extra Brut is an undosed blend of equal parts of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier that has been aged four years on the lees. This excellent sparkling wine offers a pure, fresh, precise and yeasty bouquet of white fruits intertwined with lemon aromas, some notes of freshly baked rye bread and very subtle smoky flavors (although the wine has never seen any oak). The mousse is as fine and delicate as you can expect from a Pol Roger, and so is the complexity and refined elegance of this Champagne; it is is truly dry, straight and fresh, but also intense, firmly structured and reveals a nice iodine flavor in the long finish. This wine is as subtle as it is complex, and you should give it a second chance if you tend to underrate the first sip. The finish is really remarkable in its tightness, length and purity. Try it with shellfish!" - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Full-bodied, round and dry, with very fine tannins giving a firm, refreshing and grippy structure framing body and the intense fruit, this is an elegant, fresh and finessed rosé with a delicate Pinot character on the finish. "Light, bright yellow. Ripe pear and nectarine on the fragrant nose, with hints of lemon curd, honey and dried fig adding complexity. Shows very good depth and a supple texture, with sweet poached pear and pit fruit nectar flavors sharpened by a minerally element. Closes silky, broad and gently sweet, with a suave floral quality coming up late. This would make a fantastic pairing with blue cheeses." - Josh Raynolds, Antonio Galloni's Vinous.com
