Champagne Vilmart & Cie “Grand Cellier d’Or” 2013

R975.00 inc. VAT
"The July 2017 disgorgement of Vilmart's 2013 Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or is showing brilliantly, bursting with scents of lime, citrus oil, freshly baked bread, crisp green apples and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and incisive, with an elegantly textural attack, a beautifully pure core of fruit, tangy acids and a nicely defined finish. While it's still a young wine, just beginning its drinking window, its quality is already apparent." - William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Fèlsina Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 2013 Magnum

R1,650.00 inc. VAT
"Here is another highlight of the vintage. The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is a dark, moody and sophisticated wine. It does not reveal itself immediately or in any obvious way. Instead, it doses out its intensity in careful measurements. The whole performance is seductive to say the least. That slow momentum leads to dark cherry with spice, grilled herb, wet earth and dried rose. Felsina's Riserva Rancia is a very elegant wine, both on the nose and in the mouth." - Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Fèlsina Fontalloro 2013

R795.00 inc. VAT
"Gorgeous and soft, the 2013 Fontalloro is another landmark wine from this classic vintage. There is enormous intensity here and the wine is only at the beginning of its long aging trajectory. I suggest you put off drinking it for five to ten more years. There is evident thickness and generosity here, especially in the way those bold fruit favors are woven between dark spice and leather. There are sour accents on the close that remind you of the wine's youth. The tannins are fine and well integrated." - Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Meroi Merlot “Vigna Dominin” 2013

R1,100.00 inc. VAT
"Like the Refosco, the 2013 Merlot Vigna Dominin shows what appears to be a desire to maintain more freshness in the wines. Vibrant and medium in body, the 2013 is a model of understated finesse. Even so, there is no shortage of intensity, its just that the wine is better balanced than in the past, with more freshness and redder tonalities to the fruit, and less oak influence. I would wait to drink the 2013 for at least a few years in order to allow the wine to develop more aromatic complexity. This is a lovely showing." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Sesti “Brunello di Montalcino” 2013

R995.00 inc. VAT
"Deep red. Sweet spices, ripe red cherry and Asian herbs on the vibrant nose. Then very clean and fresh in the mouth, offering raspberry, red cherry and coffee flavors that expand and linger nicely on the suave mouthfeel. There is a captivatingly complex, multilayered quality to this very deep, balanced, fleshy wine. One of the year’s best Brunellos." - Ian D'Agata, Antonio Galloni's Vinous

Trapet Schoenenbourg Riesling Grand Cru 2013

R850.00 inc. VAT
"The 2013 Schoenenbourg Riesling opens with a deep, clear, fresh, very intense and mineral, rather cool and herbal nose with white fruit and salty-mineral aromas of crushed stones. Full-bodied, round, piquant and persistently salty, this is a clear, straight, very well-defined and highly elegant Schoenenbourg. There are firm but fine tannins structuring this complex and expressive, persistently structured and excitingly pure Schoenenbourg with a very long finish that indicates an excellent aging potential. Great to enjoy today, but also for the next 10-15 years." - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Vega Sicilia “Pintia” Jeroboam 2013 (3l)

R3,500.00 inc. VAT
"The challenge in Toro is to achieve the elegance usually linked with the name of Vega Sicilia, and with the 2013 Pintia, it's achieved by fine-tuning the harvest date to maintain the freshness of aromas and acidity of the wine. The grapes were picked between September 26th and October 10th and fermented after a cold soak. Malolactic occurred in 70% French barrels, 25% American oak and the remaining 5% in Hungarian barriques. It's a more elegant year for Pintia, as cooler vintages usually help counterbalance the natural power of Toro. It's also a lighter year with good freshness, and this showed a fine thread on the palate and was nicely textured, elegant within the rusticity of the zone. It was bottled in April 2015." - Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Vega Sicilia “Valbuena 5” Jeroboam 2013 (3l)

R9,995.00 inc. VAT
"This wine was re-tasted prior to this report with similar descriptors to my previous tasting for a report I published earlier this year and the score was the same. Cropped from an unusually cold and rainy vintage in which they will not bottle Único, the 2013 Valbuena is always released in its fifth year. It's mostly Tempranillo with 5% Merlot that was put through a three- to four-day cold soak in the oak vats, where it fermented with indigenous yeasts and was pumped over. It matured in new and used 225-liter French and American oak barriques and also in 20,000-liter oak vats, where the larger vessels respect the fruit, especially in a more fragile vintage like 2013. It's a very elegant and fresh Valbuena with a developed nose, quite classical with a fine texture, elegant tannins and a supple, long finish where the oak is still quite obvious. I liked it very much and consider it a triumph over the challenges of the year. 150,650 bottles and some larger formats were produced. It was bottled in June 2015." - Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
