Le Clos du Caillou Chateauneuf du Pape “La Reserve” 2017

R1,795.00 inc. VAT
"In case readers were wondering, it is possible to be disappointed by a wine that rates "only" 97 points. I had such high hopes for the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reserve after tasting it last year, but this year the bottled wine is only extraordinary, not potentially perfect. Hints of cedar and vanilla from aging in 20% new demi-muids accent ripe black cherries in this full-bodied, silky-textured but concentrated wine that once again manages to combine richness with airiness, power with elegance and features a finish that lingers while being refreshing at the same time. It's still a major-league contender for wine of the vintage." - Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Le Clos du Caillou Chateauneuf-du-Pape “Les Quartz” 2017

R950.00 inc. VAT
"The 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz features scents of black olives and black cherries on the nose. It's a full-bodied, dense, tightly packed wine that will need time to fully express itself—is it a modern-day 2005? Ample cherry and stone fruit appear on the long, intense finish, confirming the terrific potential this wine possesses." - Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Hints of rosemary and pine accent cherries and apricots in the Grenache-dominated 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Safres. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it finishes long and intense. Already drinking well, it should continue to do so through 2030." - Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Le Clos du Caillou Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017

R520.01 inc. VAT
"Glistening ruby-red. Pungent cherry pit and black currant aromas, along with hints of licorice, musky herbs and cracked pepper. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering slow-to-open bitter cherry and dark berry flavors braced by an undercurrent of juicy acidity. Shows firm tannic grip on the persistent finish, which leaves suggestions of candied licorice and cherry preserves behind. This is a pretty serious example of a "basic" bottling, and it deserves some patience." - Josh Raynolds, Antonio Galloni's Vinous

The mouth has a beautiful suavity with aromas of liquorice and blood orange jam. A gourmet wine made for cellaring." - Producer Note

"The 2017 Cotes du Rhone Le Bouquet des Garrigues Blanc is crisper and more focused than the basic Le Caillou bottling. Boasting racy lime aromas and flavors, it's tonic and zesty on the long finish. A blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Viognier, it should drink well for a couple of years." - Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Le Clos du Caillou Côtes du Rhône “Le Caillou” Rouge 2018

R225.01 inc. VAT
"The 2018 Le Caillou has a tight blackberry, tertiary bouquet that is missing some lift and fruit intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with "chunky" and rather rough tannins. There is some freshness on the finish, but equally there is also some bitterness that lingers on the aftertaste." - Neal Martin, Antonio Galloni's Vinous
