Le Clos du Caillou Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge “Le Caillou” 2019

R250.00 inc. VAT
More sedate than the Esprit Nature (and including some non-estate fruit), the 2019 Cotes du Rhone Le Caillou is still certified organic. Hints of leather and dried spices accent dark berries on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is smooth and supple, ending on hints of earth and modest tannins.

Château de Saint Cosme Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge 2019

R275.00 inc. VAT
While the 2019 Cotes du Rhone is not a single-estate wine (it's labeled simply Saint Cosme, without the "Château de"), this 100% Syrah is a perennial bargain—and this could be its best vintage to date. Aromas of violets, cracked pepper, cassis and blueberries leap from the glass, while the medium to full-bodied palate is ripe but silky, leading into a long, mouthwatering finish. A blend of fruit from the Gard (the right bank of the Rhône) and Vinsobres (the left bank, about 400 meters above sea level), it retains a sense of freshness not often found in Syrahs from the Southern Rhône.

Le Clos du Caillou Côtes-du-Rhône “Le Bouquet des Garrigues” Blanc 2019

R325.00 inc. VAT
"The 2019 Cotes du Rhone Le Bouquet des Garrigues Blanc is a tank-fermented and aged blend of 40% Clairette, 30% Grenache Blanc and 15% each Roussanne and Viognier. It's more lime-like and linear than the le Caillou bottling, reflecting the different cépages as well as the terroir. Hints of green peach reveal the ripeness of the vintage while retaining a zesty quality. It's medium to full-bodied, with a silky feel and terrific length." - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

Le Clos du Caillou Côtes-du-Rhône “Le Bouquet des Garrigues” Rouge 2018

R325.00 inc. VAT
"The 2018 Cotes du Rhone Le Bouquet des Garrigues boasts plenty of—you guessed it—garrigue aromas, imparting a slightly briery edge to the cherry-scented fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, soft and cuddly, with supple tannins and charming, early-drinking appeal." Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir La Vignée 2019

R335.00 inc. VAT
"Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir La Vignée 2019, earthy aromas of plum and black cherry precede nicely sleek, delicious and vibrant flavors that conclude in a dusty and bitter pit fruit-inflected finale where a hint of youthful austerity arises. This is pretty enough though not especially complex, at least not yet." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

David & Nadia Grenache Noir 2020

R365.00 inc. VAT
"The 2020 vintage consists of four Grenache noir vineyards, with the core a vineyard from the Paardeberg planted in the early 2000s. Joining this vineyard is anotherPaardeberg vineyard, recently planted on the north-eastern side of the Langkloofvalley, overlooking the Aprilskloof. Another addition is a 2016 planted vineyard in schist of the Kasteelberg. This vineyard was planted on terraces high up in the mountain. Finally, Grenache noir from a farm north of Malmesbury was also added, a vineyard we have been working with since 2012. A component of the wine was fermented and matured in concrete. Juice was kept on the skins for four weeks pre-/during fermentation and 60% whole bunches were used. One punch down per day was done resulting in minimal and gentle extraction. The wine was pressed off and matured in old 500 L neutral French oak barrels as well as a 2 700 L concrete vessel for a year."- Winemaker's notes

David & Nadia Chenin Blanc 2020

R365.00 inc. VAT
"Our main Chenin blanc from the Swartland focuses yet again on various Old Vine Vineyards, with plantings ranging from 1968 till 1985. The wine is based on granite from the Paardeberg, blended with shale/schist from the east, more clay-rich soils from the north, and iron-rich soils from the western parts of the Swartland. Dry land-farmed bush vines have stood the test of time and it showcases the ultimate reason why Chenin blanc is our main focus in the Swartland. In total, the wine is made from 7 vineyards, 14 pickings, different soils, different aspects, different vineyard ages, farmed by different people, and different farmers. This wine illustrates the Swartland, its people, and its old vineyards. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented and then matured for 11 months in old neutral French oak barrels. Two components were fermented and matured in concrete – one in a square concrete tank and the other in a concrete egg. The wine has a Certified Heritage Vineyards (CHV) seal and forms part of the Old Vine Project (OVP)." Winemaker's notes

David & Nadia “Aristargos” 2020

R365.00 inc. VAT
"The Aristargos 2020 is yet again predominantly both Chenin blanc and Old Vines driven (Chenin blanc, Sémillon, Clairette Blanche, and Colombar), and the focus remains on thegranitic soils of the Paardeberg. Chenin blanc from shallow shale soils in the Paardebergand iron rich clay soils to the west of Malmesbury are also added along with Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Verdelho and Grenache blanc from iron-rich clay, lateral shale soils. For the first time, Colombar was also added." Winemaker's notes

David & Nadia “Elpidios” 2019

R365.00 inc. VAT
"This Grenache noir-based blend again includes a portion of wine that was fermented and matured in a concrete vessel – both Grenache and Syrah. Along with the concrete vessels, the wine was also matured in old 500 L neutral French oak barrels and a 4 100 L foudre (Pinotage). The Elpidios is produced in a similar fashion to our main Grenache noir in terms of long, gentle extraction, the use of 50% on average whole bunches and then pressed off. After bottling, the wine was aged in a bottle for 18 months before release. This vintage is again based on grapes grown in granite soils from the Paardeberg, blended with structured shale/schists from the east, clay-rich soils from the north, and iron mixed soils from the west." Winemaker's notes

Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles 2017

R420.00 inc. VAT
"A pepper-inflected nose is composed by mostly earthy dark berry fruit aromas. There is both good energy and intensity to the delicious flavors that possess reasonably good depth though the finish is pretty grippy and it would be fair to observe that the balance was affected by the hail." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Le Clos du Caillou Côtes-du-Rhône “Les Quartz” Rouge 2018

R425.01 inc. VAT
"Slightly bigger and more structured than the "Garrigues" bottling, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Les Quartz boasts hints of bay leaf and violets accenting cherry and leather notes. Full-bodied and admirably concentrated, framed by silky tannins, this blend of Grenache and Syrah finishes long and savory." Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

Château de Pibarnon Bandol Rosé 2019

R440.00 inc. VAT
Shimmering orange-pink. Powerful, mineral-accented white peach, raspberry and melon scents, along with building citrus pith and floral nuances. Palate-staining red berry, blood orange, nectarine and lavender flavors deftly meld depth and energy. Shows strong tension and repeating mineral character on the strikingly long finish, which leaves a suave floral note behind.

Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Village 2018

R450.01 inc. VAT
"Fleshy and elegant bouquet revealing citrus, white fruits and flowers aromas. The mouth is fresh, supple underscored by mineral." Winemaker's note

Domaine Lafarge-Vial Fleurie 2017

R470.01 inc. VAT
"Tasted from barrel, the 2017 Fleurie exhibits notes of warm spices, ripe cherries and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, tangy and tensile, with a nicely elegant profile, but it seems to be missing the flesh and integration of a less complicated vintage." -William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Domaine Lafarge-Vial Fleurie “Joie de Palais” 2016

R470.01 inc. VAT
"A more elegant and appealingly fresh nose is almost pinot-like and could easily be mistaken for same. There is good underlying tension to the vibrant, detailed and utterly delicious flavors that are bit more refined, all wrapped in a focused if youthfully austere finale. This should also be accessible young but reward mid-term cellaring." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine du Pélican Savagnin Ouillé 2017

R494.99 inc. VAT
"The pure, elegant and clean 2017 Arbois Savagnin Ouillé is a more powerful vintage with concentration through low yields, but it still a straight and vertical white, with an unusual combination of power and elegance. There is a pleasant bitterness on the finish that somewhat offsets the ripeness of the year and makes the wine come through as nicely balanced. I tasted a 2015 for comparison, and that wine felt fresher than this, and the nose had more complexity and nuance." - Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles 2018

R494.99 inc. VAT
Offering up inviting aromas of blackberries, cassis and cherries mingled with hints of licorice and grilled meats, the 2018 Chiroubles is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, with a generous core of lively fruit, tangy acids and fine, powdery tannin. This characterful, classically proportioned Chiroubles is a great success.
