Vega Sicilia Macan Clasico 2013

"The entry-level 2013 Macán Clásico is a cuvée from their 130 plots of vineyards in the Sonsierra zone of Rioja. It matured in barrel for one year before it was bottled. They tend to harvest quite early. "We start with the reds when people are finishing with the whites," Pablo Álvarez told me, and that probably was beneficial in a harvest when there was a lot of rain. This 2013 showed quite elegant and fresh, with more red fruit and sweet spices (cinnamon, vanilla), quite approachable. The oak seems better integrated than in previous years. It's very tasty, with the spices covering the sweet tannins and a long, very tasty and lively finish. Fresh and drinkable, sweeter and more accessible than the regular Macán. 39,500 bottles and some larger formats. In 2013 ,they had to sort and select the fruit, as it was a complex year, and it resulted in less bottles than in previous vintages." - Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate
