The wait is over. Vieux Télégraphe’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Télégramme

Great Domaines Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, a producer with over 100 years of history, is one of the most iconic and respected names in the southern Rhône’s most famous appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Télégramme cuvée, and baby brother to the flagship La Crau, has become a very popular wine at Great Domaines. The 2020 vintage is a brilliant follow-up to the 2019, and it is about to touch down in our cellars.

Dear Reader,

The wines of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe are classic in style, displaying wonderful structure and an edge of rusticity.

Vieux Télégraphe’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Télégramme cuvée is produced from 60-year-old Grenache noir vineyards, blended with young vine fruit from the two lieux-dits of La Crau and Le Piedlong. The composition is generally around 80% Grenache noir, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre and 4% Cinsault.

While a second label to the flagship La Crau cuvée, the Télégramme is treated with just as much care and attention. Grapes are picked by hand and undergo a second sorting at the cellar. Grapes are 100% de-stemmed and following fermentation, the wine is matured for up to 16 months in French oak foudres.

This wine is always wonderful to drink young, showing freshness and vibrant red fruit. Don’t overlook its ageing potential though either, and we suggest buying at least a case so that a few bottles can be cellared for a few years.

”…2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Telegramme delivers pretty notions of strawberries and raspberries, plus just a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied but silky, fine and elegant, this looks like the finest wine I’ve tasted under this label—a solid wine of its own.”

”…2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Telegramme reveals aromas of predominantly ripe black fruits, strawberry compote, dried herbs, mint and licorice. It is a layered, full-bodied red with ample concentration, neatly balanced by fresh acidity…”
