“In case readers were wondering, it is possible to be disappointed by a wine that rates “only” 97 points. I had such high hopes for the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape La Reserve after tasting it last year, but this year the bottled wine is only extraordinary, not potentially perfect. Hints of cedar and vanilla from aging in 20% new demi-muids accent ripe black cherries in this full-bodied, silky-textured but concentrated wine that once again manages to combine richness with airiness, power with elegance and features a finish that lingers while being refreshing at the same time. It’s still a major-league contender for wine of the vintage.” – Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Interesting herbaceous profile, showing earthy, crushed leaf components and even agave, but without any green, bitter elements. The palate is broad, with red fruited accessibility, and the property’s signature structure and firm tannins. Medium bodied.
"A blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, the 2020 Vinsobres features cinnamon, liquorice, black pepper, gingerbread and salinity. Bottled unfiltered. If the sense of terroir-driven power were to be encapsulated by a vineyard site, that site would have to be Rouanne. Our 2020 Vinsobres is packed full of intensity, length, fullness, depth, and enigma." - Winemaker's notes
Chateau de Saint Cosme Little James NV, "I enjoyed the non-vintage Little James. A blend of primarily Grenache (from both the Southern Rhone and the Languedoc-Roussillon), some of which is vinified carbonically, it is an excellent, surprisingly substantial, heady, full-flavored bistro red. Consume it over the next several years.- Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate
