“The 2012 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 1er Cru Terre de Vertus is powerful, dense and also surprisingly tightly wound given the richness of the year. Readers will have to be patient with the 2012, as it is quite closed in on itself today. Dried pear, green apple, citrus, smoke, licorice and dried herbs open up over time, but the 2012 offers a decidedly austere and nervy expression of Chardonnay at this stage. Even so, the interplay of power and crystalline intensity is compelling. Non-dosé. Disgorged: March 2018.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"The 2020 Chardonnay Ronco Basso is youthfully backward today, with crushed almonds giving way to pretty hints of young peach and dusty florals. Its silken textures coat the palate in ripe apple and pear complemented by hints of sweet almond. The finish is long, stained with confectionery spice and a gentle tug of minerality. The Ronco Basso impresses with its balance and elegance." - Eric Guido, Vinous
"Dusty white flowers and nuances of vanilla bean contrasted by crushed green apple, curry leaf and ashen stone waft up from the 2020 Chardonnay Sol to create a beguiling bouquet. This is a contrasting expression, with ripe fruits and silky textures offset by mineral-tinged acids and hints of sour citrus. It leaves the palate vibrating with tension and refreshed while closing with persistence, as a hint of almond paste lingers. I’m dreaming of white Burgundy while sipping this; yet there’s no need, because the Chardonnay Sol overdelivers." - Eric Guido, Vinous
Newton Johnson Family Vineyards Chardonnay 2022, "Blending three different components from both sides of the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, this is a beautifully judged Chardonnay from a South African master of the variety. Voluptuous and textured, yet focused and energetic at the same time, it has struck match top notes, 22% new oak, citrus and vanilla spice flavours and a pithy, salty finish." - Tim Atkin MW
