Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils Beaune Grèves Premier Cru Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus 2019 Magnum

"A markedly floral-suffused nose blends red and dark currant scents with those of a plethora of spice and earth elements. There is impressive volume to the caressing but solidly punchy and powerful middle weight plus flavors that possess better depth and superb length. Excellent and very much built-to-age." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Maison de Montille Montagny 1er Cru “Les Coères” 2018

R650.00 inc. VAT
Maison de Montille Montagny 1er Cru "Les Coères" 2018 "This is not aromatically dissimilar from the Bourgogne though here there is a whiff of the exotic and in particular, white peach. There is better volume and punch to the delicious and racy middle weight flavors where the minerality is more pronounced, all wrapped in a bone-dry, crisp and steely finish. Blind, this could pass for a good Chablis without the youthful austerity." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Beaune “Les Aigrots” Premier Cru 2018

R895.00 inc. VAT
"This is much more floral with pretty spice, lemon zest and white peach scents. The denser and rounder middle-weight flavors also flash an appealing minerality on the rich, sappy and delicious finale that manages to be reasonably refined if not actually elegant. This is a wine that could be aged to good effect for a few years or enjoyed young for its exuberant fruit." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Nuits Saint Georges “Aux Thorey” Premier Cru 2018

R1,450.00 inc. VAT
"Aromas of peonies, orange rind, wild berries and sweet soil tones introduce the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey, a medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and elegant wine that's beautifully balanced and structurally refined. This is very promising." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Domaine de Montille Beaune “Les Sizies” Premier Cru 2018

R975.00 inc. VAT
Domaine de Montille Beaune “Les Sizies” Premier Cru 2018, "A more elegant though still markedly earthy nose speaks of dark berries, violet and a whiff of wood. The caressing yet entirely serious medium weight flavors exude a light minerality while displaying fine length on the focused, detailed and notably firmer finish." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Michel Lafarge Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Aigrots Blanc 2018

R1,120.00 inc. VAT
"A more floral-infused nose freely offers up its aromas of very fresh white-fleshed fruit, citrus zest and a touch of mineral reduction. The sleek, intense and even stonier middle weight flavors are actually not quite as concentrated though they are a bit finer on the clean, dry and relatively tightly wound finish. This balanced and attractive effort should reward up to a decade of cellaring." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Premier Cru Vaulorent 2018

R995.00 inc. VAT
Domaine William Fevre Chablis Premier Cru “Vaulorent” 2018, "Not surprisingly this is aromatically similar to the Fourchaume though here there is a whiff of wood in evidence. The slightly sleeker and finer medium-bodied flavors possess good power and punch while remaining refined and composed on the impressively long and well-balanced finale." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits Saint-Georges 1er “Aux Boudots” 2018

R2,650.00 inc. VAT
Half the vines were ripped out 5 years ago and will come back into play in 2020 maybe. Bouncing concentrated dark red fruit, not too exuberant on the palate though, an excellent fine-grained tannic structure behind, and exceptional length. This has been picked at optimum ripeness. - Jasper Morris MW , Inside Burgundy

Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits Saint Georges “Les Pruliers” Premier Cru 2018

R2,275.00 inc. VAT
"A subtly spicy nose is comprised by notes of ripe yet very fresh red and dark cherry, lavender and a whiff of sandalwood. The restrained and focused middle weight flavors exude a lovely minerality on the dusty, balanced and wonderfully long finish. This is excellent." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges “Clos des Porrets St. Georges” Premier Cru 2018

R1,175.00 inc. VAT
"From a climate that was largely spared by the hail that impacted this commune, Gouges's 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint Georges offers up a generous, youthfully fruit-driven bouquet of plums, raspberries and cassis mingled with subtle hints of cola and creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, pure and velvety, it's layered and fleshy, with powdery tannins and an ample core of fruit. This is a rather ripe, sumptuous, even rather heady example of the frequently rather stern Clos des Porrets Saint Georges, and in that respect, it's very typical of the vintage." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Domaine Henri Germain et Fils Beaune “Bressandes” 1er Cru Rouge 2018

R950.00 inc. VAT
"Once again there is a hint of volatile acidity but here it's so subtle as to be all but invisible on the agreeably fresh and cooler essence of both red and dark pinot fruit that is laced with spice, floral and warm earth wisps. The bigger and richer medium weight flavors possess a relatively refined mouthfeel before terminating in a bitter pit fruit-inflected finale. This lovely effort should drink well early but age well too over the short to mid-term." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Marquis D’Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2018

R1,650.00 inc. VAT
"Domaine Marquis D’Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2018, Once again there an elevated level of ripeness to the still fresh nose of cassis, black cherry and poached plum. The slightly more elegant and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess fine richness; indeed the texture is quite seductive, all wrapped in a complex, long and balanced finale where a hint of bitter pit fruit arises."

Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny “Les Sentiers” Premier Cru 2018

R2,995.00 inc. VAT
"100% whole bunch vinification with 25% new wood. Clear red purple with an ultra-succulent style. This fills the mouth in a soft but deep raspberry style. The bunches give the freshness without much actual acidity, fine length of red fruit." - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny “Les Hauts Doix” Premier Cru 2018

R2,995.00 inc. VAT
First to be picked, a little under 13%, with 25% new wood and 50% whole bunch vinification. A tighter nose than the Gevrey, taking a little time to coax out. Very pretty succulent, indeed floral notes, peonies, ripe cherries, with a vanilla cream oak in support. Sensual finish. - Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Domaine de Montille Nuits St. Georges “Aux Thorey” Premier Cru 2017

R1,345.01 inc. VAT
"Once again there is a beguiling elegance to the pure if spicier aromas of floral-inflected red currant and cherry scents. Once again there is beautiful delineation to the intensely stony medium weight flavors that deliver very fine length on the balanced and complex finish. This too is quite lovely." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Volnay “Taillepieds” Premier Cru 2017

R1,860.01 inc. VAT
"A cool, pure and ultra-floral nose blends notes of both red and dark cherry, anise, sandalwood and a hint of herbal tea. The firm, serious and overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess excellent verve while culminating in a youthfully austere and impressively long finish. This is clearly very firm yet it's a bit less compact than it usually is but with that said, plenty of patience will still be necessary." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges “Les Cailles” Premier Cru 2017

R1,560.01 inc. VAT
"As is virtually always the case, this is more aromatically elegant and spicier and in 2017 the nose of essence of raspberry, cherry, violet and soft herbal tea notes is also notably spicier. There is excellent richness and a highly beguiling vibrancy to the well-detailed and stony medium-bodied flavors that deliver a lovely combination of punch and finesse on the sneaky long finish. In sum, this beautifully well-balanced effort is Zen-like." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Maison Bouchard Père & Fils Nuits St. Georges “Les Cailles” Premier Cru 2016

R1,325.00 inc. VAT
"Here the oak/menthol influence on the spicy aromas of plum, cassis and soft earth is more moderate though it's still far from subtle. There is both excellent volume and precision to the delicious, sophisticated and energetic medium-bodied flavors that possess a taut muscularity before concluding in a gorgeously complex and persistent finish. This is pretty much textbook Les Cailles though one that is also clearly in need of extended cellaring." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Maison Bouchard Père & Fils Nuits St. Georges “Les Cailles” 2017

"This too lacks a bit of freshness on the overtly spiced and less obviously wood aromas of black cherry and violet. There is slightly better freshness on the palate thanks to the evident minerality on adds a touch of lift to the mildly woody finish where the supporting tannins are firm but not hard. Like the Le Corton, I found this to be somewhat disappointing as it's normally an excellent wine." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine de Montille Volnay “La Carelle Sous Chapelle” Premier Cru 2017

R1,405.00 inc. VAT
"A deft touch of wood sets off the bright red fruit, lavender and discreet spice-inflected aromas. The sleek, elegant and well-detailed middle weight flavors possess a refined mouth feel before concluding in a more obviously mineral-driven finish that has just a touch of youthful austerity to it. This lacy effort is lovely and very Volnay in character." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Trapet Pere et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Capita 2017

R2,160.01 inc. VAT
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Capita is a blend of fruit from the premiers crus En Ergot, Corbeaux and Combottes, supplemented—if I understood Jean-Louis Trapet correctly—by a visual selection of small-berried clusters from Petite Chapelle and Clos Prieur which are not destemmed. The wine offers up attractive notes of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, espresso roast and cedary new wood, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample palate with bright acids and fine-grained tannins. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny “Les Hauts Doix” Premier Cru 2017

R2,535.00 inc. VAT
"The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts Doix 1er Cru comes from 70-year-old vines, including 50% whole bunches, matured in 25% new oak. This has a very floral bouquet, already open and welcoming, with pressed rose petals infusing, almost dictating, the vibrant red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red fruit. Not a light Chambolle-Musigny per se, yet nimble and light on its toes, with an unprepossessing, detailed, tart finish and a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. This will probably drink earlier than Groffier’s other 2017s but should still offer 15 years of drinking pleasure." - Neal Martin, Antonio Galloni's Vinous
