Champagne Marguet Père et Fils Shaman Grand Cru 2017

R750.00 inc. VAT
"Scents of pear, waxy citrus rind, mandarin orange, peach and buttery pastry, Marguet's NV Shaman 17 is medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous, with bright acids and chalky grip. It was disgorged in September 2020. As readers will remember, the "17" denotes the base vintage, which is complemented by reserve wines from a solera established in 2010." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Pulltex Sabrage Champagne Sword in a Great Domaines wooden box

R2,500.00 inc. VAT
Sabrage is a technique for opening a champagne bottle with a saber, used for ceremonial occasions. The force of the blunt blade hitting the lip breaks the glass to separate the collar from the neck of the bottle.A tradition that is finding its way into weddings feasts, parties, and formal dinner is that of beheading a bottle of champagne with a sabre specially made for the occasions. Begun as a means of showing off their skill on horseback, the hussards under Napoleon's command celebrated their victories by "sabring" off the top of the bottle of champagne.Sword size: 45cm L x 4cm W Box size: 50cm L x 15cm W x 6cm H

Champagne Vilmart & Cie Grand Cellier D’Or Premier Cru 2015

R1,100.00 inc. VAT
"Disgorged in June 2019 with seven grams per liter dosage, the 2015 Brut Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or reveals inviting aromas of golden orchard fruit, pear, freshly baked bread and citrus zest. Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Vieille Vigne du Levant Grand Cru Extra Brut 2011

R1,450.00 inc. VAT
"Revisited from the June 2019 disgorgment, Larmandier-Bernier's 2011 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant continues to drink superbly, bursting from the glass with aromas of pear, peach, toasted almonds, white flowers, fresh bread and oyster shell. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and fleshy, with superb concentration, racy acids and a long, saline finish. I have previously contended that Pierre Larmandier produced Champagne's wines-of-the-vintage in 2011, and every bottle I open seems to confirm that. Indeed, if one were to taste only his wines, along with those produced by a small handful of other growers, one could easily think very differently about this unheralded year." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Champagne Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2012

"Old gold hue with gorgeous grey tints and a stream of lovely fine bubbles. The first nose exudes generous aromas of pastry with hints of vanilla and brioche, followed by subtle fragrances of sweet spice as it opens up. The bouquet then develops to reveal an array of dried fruit and candied exotic fruit mixed with notes of banana and papaya. The wine is honest and lively on entry, giving way to an attractive and opulent texture with a lovely balance. We are then treated to an extraordinary explosion of flavours, elegantly blending roasted almonds, acacia honey, hazelnut liqueur and gingerbread. This wonderful harmony is underpinned by a structure that shows a smooth, creamy and round character. Well structured with a superb aromatic persistence, this vintage 2012 is remarkable for its complexity and power." - Winemaker's notes

Champagne Pol Roger Rosé 2012

"Remembering the rather reserved phase in which I had found Pol Roger's 2012 Brut Rosé when I reviewed it in August, I pulled a bottle from my cellar to check in on its evolution. A few months have made a difference, and the wine is more expressive already, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of plums, red berries, blood orange and toasted brioche. On the palate, it's full-bodied, muscular and vinous, with terrific depth and structure at the core, its ripe but racy acids balanced by considerable texture and concentration. While this remains youthfully tight-knit, I'm inclined to think I was very conservative regarding its ultimate potential." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

"Disgorged in May 2018 with seven grams per liter dosage, Vilmart's new 2011 Brut Coeur de Cuvée is showing beautifully, offering up an expressive bouquet of crisp green pear, yellow apple, dried white flowers, English walnuts and spices. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly fleshy and nicely concentrated, it's a fine-boned, precise rendition of this cuvée, built around ripe but racy acids and complemented by a pinpoint mousse. Vilmart is the sort of grower that succeeds in vintages such as 2011, and this wine met my expectations."

Colmant Methode Cap Classique Brut Reserve Non-Vintage

"Produced before the arrival of sparkling wine guru, Paul Gerber, earlier this year, the Colmant Brut Reserve proves that he has good raw material to work with. Based on the 2017 vintage, but with some raw material, it's youthful, dry and well balanced with lovely restraint and focus." - Tim Atkin MW, South African Special Report
