Château Labegorce Margaux 2019

R765.00 inc. VAT
"The 2019 Labégorce, picked from 19 September to 12 October and matured in 40% new oak, has one of the more flamboyant Margaux bouquets with expressive black cherries, bilberry, light cedar notes and crushed violet. It develops impressive cohesion with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and what you first notice is the finesse of the tannins. This has a satin-like texture and very well judged acidity. The new oak does poke out a little on the finish - if that can be assimilated during its barrel maturation, this could turn into a very serious Margaux. - Neal Martin, Vinous

Anwilka Red Blend 2019

R480.00 inc. VAT
"The 2019 Anwilka is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Syrah. The nose opens with subtle Syrah notes of red peppercorn and smoked meats before moving to dusty red and black fruit aromas. Full-bodied, layered and fresh, the palate reveals the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, with soft herbal essences, bitter black tea and delicate olive notes. Graphite and pencil shavings follow across the mid-palate. The wine continues to unwind over the long lingering, mineral-laced, food-friendly finish. This rested for 20 months in all French oak, 50% of which was new, before being bottled." - Anthony Mueller, The Wine Advocate

Anwilka Red Blend 2018

R480.00 inc. VAT
"The 2018 Anwilka offers a delightful refinement and finesse, wafting with layers of dusty red fruit, oak and elegant red flowers. Medium to full-bodied, the palate provides balanced tannins with lively acidity that lingers across the mid-palate through the ever-evolving finish without showing any greenness. Give it a try." - Anthony Mueller, The Wine Advocate

Anwilka Red Blend 2016

R480.00 inc. VAT
"Bursting from the glass, the 2016 Anwilka has elegant oak tones that play with a juicy fruit structure. Dark cherry, blackberry and plums all dance with mocha tones and oak spices that integrate seamlessly together. The wine is full-bodied on the palate, with a ripe attack of bold, concentrated fruit and a balanced structure with grippy tannins that hang on the gumline, leaving flavors of bitter dark chocolate and coffee bean. Ending with a long, drawn-out finish, it continues to evolve on the palate long after the wine has left the mouth. This is a serious wine for collectors." - Anthony Mueller, The Wine Advocate

Anwilka Red Blend 2013

R685.00 inc. VAT
"The 2013 Anwilka is a blend of 62% Syrah, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot. It has an attractive raspberry coulis and crushed strawberry bouquet with well-integrated oak. The palate is smooth on the entry with supple red berry fruit laced with bay leaf and clove, leading to a very composed finish that seems more elegant and refined than previous vintages. Bon vin!" - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate

Anwilka Red Blend 2012

R710.00 inc. VAT
"The 2012 Anwilka is a blend of 87% Shiraz and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in 50% new oak. It has a very pure and well defined bouquet with ebullient blackberry and cedar scents, quite strict at the moment but nicely focused and integrated with the wood. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin, very well judged acidity, and there is a pleasant chewiness in the mouth with rosemary and sage towards the finish. This is a well crafted Anwilka that will benefit from 2-3 years in bottle." - Anthony Mueller, The Wine Advocate

San Román Bodegas Garnacha 2020

R950.00 inc. VAT
"The one red in the portfolio that has a very different profile from the rest is the 2020 Garnacha, a bright ruby-colored varietal wine with a perfumed, floral and decadent nose a little à la Rayas with cherries in liqueur. It has a medium body, fine tannins and a juicy texture, but it's obviously young and undeveloped with primary notes and baby fat. It has 14% alcohol and a pH of 3.6, very integrated, with almost unperceivable oak after 19 months in 500-liter French oak barrels. 2,754 bottles were filled in May 2022." - Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

San Román Bodegas San Román 2020

R695.00 inc. VAT
"The 2020 San Román had a slightly shorter élevage than the 2019 I tasted next to it. These are wines of very good regularity, showing a ripe and generously oaked profile, ripe, lush and powerful, perhaps a tad lighter and fresher in 2020. 115,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022." - Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

San Román Bodegas Prima 2020

R295.00 inc. VAT
"The 2020 Prima used to be the lightest and most approachable of the reds from San Román until the birth of the varietal Garnacha. It was produced with Tinta de Toro and 15% Garnacha and other varieties with 14.5% alcohol and mellow acidity, cropped from a cooler year of lighter and fresher wines. This had a soft vinification with short macerations and an élevage in 3,000- and 4,000-liter oak foudres and 500-liter barrels for 14 months, a regimen that seems to work quite well with the already powerful wines from the region, making them more approachable and better balanced. Delicious. 171,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022." - Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

Champagne Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2015 Magnum

R9,300.00 inc. VAT
"The 2015 Brut Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill shows off the savory side of the vintage to great effect. Hints of dried pear, sage, mint, dried flowers, lemon oil and chamomile open gradually in this mid-weight, lithe edition of Pol Roger's tête de cuvée. The 2015 unfolds nicely with time in the glass, but I wouldn't think of opening a bottle anytime soon. Readers will find a nervy Winston Churchill marked by notable freshness and vigor more than size. This is a fine effort in a vintage that has proven to be far trickier than most observers originally envisioned. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged September 2022." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

BLANKbottle The Bomb 2021

R390.00 inc. VAT
"This wine started way back - I bottled a straight 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon from a friend’s farm. The wine was big, but I loved it. After bottling, the Department of Agriculture came back with the final analysis. An alcohol of 16.14% - GOODNESS?! I stacked the wine in the back of the warehouse, not sure what to do with it. I then had a tasting at the Hinterhofkabuff with a German guy called Martin Baulmann, who subsequently became my agent in Germany. We tasted all my wines and at the end he asked me if I had something big for him to taste. "How do you mean; BIG?", I asked. "In colour, extraction, tannin?..."." Like in 15% alcohol...", he replied. "I think I have something even better for you" I said. So I opened a still unlabelled bottle and poured him a glass of what I was planning to name Midnight Call. He loved it and wanted to buy everything. For those of you who do not know Martin: He has a big frame, laughs loudly, and lives large. So afterwards I sat in the Hinterhofkabuff drinking a glass, thinking of this very big guy that loved this very loud wine. It seemed natural to change the name to THE BOMB." Winemaker's notes

BLANKbottle Pierre Le Cois 2021

R390.00 inc. VAT
"The X-factor - The PIERRE-LE-COIS-EFFECT as I call it. The guy and nowadays often, the girl in the bakkie. The eyes who look holistically at the big picture and apply knowledge and experience within the comfort of like minded wise minds - enabling the application of practices to guide these vines to the ultimate expression of themselves. Season upon season. " - Winemaker's notes

Newton Johnson Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 2022

R620.00 inc. VAT
Newton Johnson Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 2022, "Family Vineyards is an equal combination of north and south-facing sites and is correspondingly self-assured and well balanced. Fermented with 20% whole bunches and aged in 29% new oak, it has lovely weight and freshness, goji berry, pomegranate and wild strawberry flavours and precise, granular tannins." - Tim Atkin MW

Ronco del Gnemiz Sauvignon Blanc “Péri” 2021

R950.00 inc. VAT
"The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Peri whisps up from the glass with a nuanced bouquet, blending savory spices with dusty florals and pear. It's supremely silky and supple, yet lifted as well, placing minerality before fruit but then closes with a pretty inner sweetness. Zests of lemon and lime mingle with savory spice and sage as the 2021 leaves the palate buzzing with residual tension." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Ronco-Gnemiz Chardonnay Sol 2021

R950.00 inc. VAT
"The 2021 Chardonnay Sol is quite restrained and delicate in the glass with floral nuances, crushed stones and lime. It's much more expressive on the palate, with brisk acidity giving life to its mineral-inflected orchard fruits. This tapers off with a pretty inner sweetness offsetting its youthful concentration, leaving hints of floral-laced apple and pear. The 2021 will take some time to come fully into focus." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2017

R795.00 inc. VAT
"Masses of ashen earth, smoke, dusty cherry and roses with nuances of clove lift up from the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino. This is silky and pliant upon entry, presenting a rich display of intense red and hints of black fruits laced with chalky minerals that drenches the palate. Penetrating acidity and grippy tannins create a burst of cheek-puckering tension, clenching down hard with youthful poise, as notes of licorice and hard red candies linger through the structured, medium-length finale. There are some moments where the 2017 reminds you that it comes from an incredibly hot and dry vintage, yet overall, it’s a huge success for the year. That said, it needs time to unwind from its youthful state. Production was down 15–20% at Il Poggione in 2017 due to severe selection of bunches, and all of the fruit that would have been reserved for the Riserva Vigna Paganelli was added to the Brunello instead." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2018 Magnum

R1,795.00 inc. VAT
"Impressing from the first tilt of the glass, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino makes itself known, with a heady burst of exotic spice and crushed ashen stone giving way to dried black cherries and grilled herbs. This combines the energy of the vintage with the dark balsamic-tinged fruits of Montalcino’s southern reaches, as zesty acidity maintains balance throughout, and flinty minerals saturate toward the close. It finishes long, savory and structured, yet its tannins are more rounded than anticipated, creating both a classic feel, but also leaving a mouthwatering sensation that tricks the taster back to the glass for more. Easily one of the top wines of the vintage, the 2018 is not to be missed." - Eric Guido

Damascene W.O. Stellenbosch Syrah 2022

R494.99 inc. VAT
"The 2022 Syrah from Karabib is 75% whole clusters matured for 11 months in 2,000-liter Austrian oak. This elegant nose of incense and pressed violets infuses the vivacious melange of black and blue fruit. The medium-bodied palate has fine structure, slightly chalky in texture, with real backbone and density, yet the elegance floods through on the black pepper and clove-infused finish. Very persistent in the mouth. Tuck bottles away for several years as this is a serious Syrah sculpted by its cooler microclimate." - Neal Martin, Vinous

Damascene W.O. Swartland Syrah 2022

R494.99 inc. VAT
"The 2022 Syrah from Swartland comes from mostly shale and schist soils, 25% on granite soils, using 75% whole cluster fruit (the shale using submerged cap during fermentation). Aged in 2,000-liter Austrian oak, this leans more towards red berries, with touches of flint and white pepper with a hint of garrigues coming through with aeration. The medium-bodied palate has finely sculpted tannins. There’s a lovely symmetry and focus here, a gentle but insistent grip with the whole bunches imparting irresistible peppery notes towards the finish. Superb." - Neal Martin, Vinous

Damascene W.O. Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

R494.99 inc. VAT
"Jean Smith is so brilliant at making Syrah that it's easy to forget that he's a wizard with Cabernet Franc, too. This is made with the CF1 clone, sourced from an east-facing site in the Bottelary Hills. So perfumed that it "takes over the cellar", it has kale, sage and graphite aromas, damson, black cherry and fennel flavours and serious, grippy tannins." - Tim Atkin MW
