Keermont Single Vineyards

Great Domaines were proud to launch the Keermont single vineyard range in Gauteng.  These are the top wines from our favourite Stellenbosch producer (and incidentally one of South Africa’s ‘First Growths’ according to Tim Atkin), and come extremely highly rated in the Platter guide.  This is what we at Great Domaines thought of the wines!

Keermont ‘Riverside’ Chenin Blanc 2015, Stellenbosch – R300

Incredible concentration and depth, this wine took a couple of hours to open up, and was still improving right up until the last sip, indicating a long life ahead of it.  Classic honeysuckle and ripe stone fruit flavours with a long minerally finish.

Keermont ‘Pondok Rug’ Cabernet Franc 2014, Stellenbosch – R380

Up until last year, all of their Cab Franc went into their estate blend, but from 2014 onwards it has been deemed worthy of a separate bottling.  Cab Franc is normally a light-medium bodied wine, which this is, but with a heady 15% alcohol.  When we questioned Alex (the winemaker) he also pointed out a mouth-wateringly high ph, and explained that the fruit could not be picked any earlier due to the fruit acids, and no later due to the sugars that had built up.  Herbaceous and fruit driven, this wine has great intensity and is incredibly enjoyable.

Keermont ‘Topside’ Syrah 2014, Stellenbosch – R380

The first of two Syrah tasted, from the cooler side of the hill.  This displays intense varietal aromatics, somewhat of a rarity in Stellenbosch, with an old-world tannic structure.  Fresh and fragrant, this was my particular favourite of the pair, although they split the room down the middle!

Keermont ‘Steepside’ Syrah 2014, Stellenbosch – R380

A deep, brooding and concentrated expression of Syrah, from the warmer of the two sites.  This wine showed subtler aromatics, but a fantastic purity of fruit.  The sheer depth of flavor in this wine gave it a long, fruit driven finish.

All of the wines are very limited in their availability, so if you’d like to purchase any, or would like more information, just get in touch.
