It takes a village (Burgundy)

From the most reputed domaines, modern day village cru burgundy wine can be both affordable and attainable to more wine lovers, and of such high quality that the wines will only benefit from being left to mature in the cellar. For today, we have handpicked six red burgundies, all village cru, but representing three consecutive vintages (2017, 2018 and 2019). Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin are all exhibited here, along with an outlier for a red from Chassagne-Montrachet. Behind the wines are some of Burgundy’s most respected domaines: Grivot, Trapet, Gouges, Chevillon, Bouchard Père et Fils and Jean-Claude Bachelet.

Dear Reader,

For over twenty years, Great Domaines has made it the business’ heartfelt mission to make available to South African wine-lovers some of the very best wines from Burgundy. Beyond the model of importing the wines direct from each domaine and distributing them, we keep back certain wines and add them to our own library. A back vintage catalogue of wine then allows us to put handpicked selections together both for purchase and, at varying levels of quality and price point, curated tasting events in order to share our passion with likeminded people.

Today we share with you both a mixed case of specific burgundy wines, and advertise a burgundy-themed tasting which will be our first of the new year. In addition, we are making four seats to this tasting (valued at R 1,550 each) available at no charge to the first four people to order a mixed case as advertised today.
