The 2021 vintage is here and at less than R 300 a bottle, the Chave Côtes-du-Rhône Mon Cœur is a no-brainer for a wine that offers a peek inside this legendary estate’s style and Jean-Louis Chave’s winemaking wizardry.
The J.L. Chave Sélection Côtes-du-Rhône Mon Cœur 2021 is a blend of Syrah and Grenache noir, sourced from eight excellent vineyards spread across the areas of Valréas, Visan and Buisson – all chosen for their low yields and exceptional quality of fruit.
From the cooler 2021 vintage, this Mon Cœur is wonderfully aromatic and poised. The elegance and purity of the 2021 means it is drinking beautifully now, so don’t be surprised if pulling the cork on one bottle picks up some momentum.

A year-in, year-out smoking value as well as a great bottle of wine, the 2021 Côtes du Rhône Mon Cœur checks in as equal parts Grenache and Syrah brought up in neutral oak. Its vivid ruby hue is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, lively red offering pretty red and black berry fruits, some spring flowers, peppery herbs, and gamey nuances, fine tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. Coming from a cooler year, it still brings plenty of richness and depth and is well worth seeking out.”
