Domaine de Trévallon des Alpilles Rouge 2009
- Great Domaines
- The Wine Advocate
all ratings out of 100 points.
"The 2009 Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Alpilles is drinking beautifully today and shows the ripe, sexy, voluptuous style of this vintage in the Southern Rhône Valley. Gorgeous kirsch, herbes de Provence, lavender, tobacco and exotic spice characteristics all flow to a full-bodied, opulent 2009 that has sweet tannin, plenty of mid-palate oomph, and a great finish. It’s drinking at point, yet I suspect will keep for another 7-10 years in cool cellars." - Jeb Dunnuck, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Vineyards & vinification:
Trévallon is known for its long aging process, more than 2 years for its reds. Racking is kept to a strict minimum.
The Domaine de Trevallon wine estate is located in Saint-Etienne-du-Grès, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, 25 km south of Avignon and 7 km west of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, on the northern slopes of the Alpilles. The vines, growing amidst holm oaks, olive and almond trees, blend harmoniously into this enchanted landscape.
The Trevallon vineyard covers 17 hectares of this protected zone and surrounds a large, blue-shuttered, Provençal farhouse: 15 hectares of red grapes, made up of equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. A further 2 hectares of white grapes, are also planted, made up of 45 % Marsanne, 45 % Roussanne and 10 % Chardonnay.
The Domaine de Trevallon is now so well-known that it is easy to forget that it is not that long ago since it was founded. One of the pioneers of the wine-growing renaissance that took place in the region around Les Baux, Eloi Dürrbach planted the first vines in the Alpilles in 1973.
