Director of Chateau Margaux Passes Away

Paul Pontalier, director of Château Margaux, has passed away after over 30 years of service at the Château .

In a span of just two weeks the world has lost two huge legends in wine. Last week we said goodbye to Henri Bonneau of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and it is with sadness in our hearts that this week we bid farewell to Paul Pontallier of Château Margaux.

After studying in Oenology, Pontalier joined the Château in 1983 and remained working there until his passing on 28 March 2016. The professional relationship between Paul Pontalier and Château Margaux owner Corinne Mentzelopoulos was famous, being the longest professional relationship between a Bordeaux First Growth owner and the director.

Known the world over for his presence and humble ways, Pontalier will be dearly missed. Great Domaines wishes to extend its condolences to the Château as well as his family during this time.
