Brunello of unparalleled quality, consistency and value

Dear Reader,

Situated on the southern slopes of Montalcino in the Tuscan village of Sant’Angelo in Colle, Il Poggione is one of Montalcino’s largest producers of Brunello and year after year, they manage to maintain an enviable level of quality, producing not only some of the region’s best wines, but also some of its most attractively priced.

”Il Poggione Brunello displays elegance, depth, classic structure and Sangiovese purity – all while remaining a remarkable value….Finding another Brunello in this price-point that is as long-lived, true to place and coloring within classic lines, isn’t easy.”
Eric Guido for Vinous

Il Poggione enjoys a warm microclimate that is regulated by cooling winds. Varied vineyard exposures and elevations also combine to produce very elegant and balanced wines. The Brunello di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese and the grapes come from the estate’s oldest vineyards, which are planted between 150 and 450 metres above sea level. Grapes are harvested by hand and then once back at the winery, undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then transferred to French oak barrels (30-50 hectolitres) for 36 months’ maturation. Once in bottle, the Brunello is matured further at the estate before being released to market.

The Rosso di Montalcino is also 100% Sangiovese and the grapes come from the estate’s 15-20 year-old vineyards, planted at the same elevation as the Brunello vineyards. Grapes are harvested by hand and then once back at the winery, follow the same winemaking process as for the Brunello. The wine is then transferred to a combination of French oak barrels (30-50 hectolitres) and smaller barriques (350 litres) for 12 months’ maturation.

Be sure to have some of these wines on the table this festive season. We even have some half-bottles (375ml) of the Rosso di Montalcino available, which make for a perfect stocking filler!
