Bordeaux’s secret weapon

Château Lafleur

Dear Reader,

Château Lafleur presides over a mere 4.58 hectares (out of 800 hectares in Pomerol total) and produces around 1,000 cases of wine for the entire world per year. With illustrious neighbours like Château La Fleur-Pétrus, Petrus and Vieux Château Certan, Lafleur remains grounded and is very much a family affair. Today, we share with you an offer on the family’s estate in Mouillac (a part of Fronsac) – Château Grand Village.

Founded in 1650, of the fifty hectares of land that make up this estate, twenty are planted to vines on the plateau and the rest is woods and meadows.  Both in the vineyards and at the Grand Village winery, the family adopts the very same philosophy as at Lafleur. It is here where the family’s massale selection nurseries are found. The healthy soils provide for favourable conditions to nurture old Bouchet (Cabernet Franc) cuttings from Château Lafleur.

The Château Grand Village red is consistently a blend of 70-80% Merlot and 20-30% Bouchet.

Inside your six-bottle case of Château Grand Village, you have three bottles each of the 2019 and 2020 vintages. At an average price of just over R 400 per bottle, we lay down the challenge to find another red Bordeaux that overdelivers on class and quality like this wine does.
